Unit1: Methods of iterating–week3

Final presentation of studio work and written response.

(Feb 4,2025)

While using TD, I noticed some limitations, like how it takes a long time to start or how loading certain files can cause it to crash. So, I wanted to turn these “crashes” into a visual experience.

This week, I continued exploring the limits of TD crashes and tried to connect these crash processes with the idea of a “screensaver.”

I experimented with different ways to trigger TD crashes and turned them into looping screensavers.

01
Every time I open TouchDesign, I have to wait a long time.
I recorded the entire process, which took 51 seconds.
Then, I edited to make it look like it’s endlessly loading.

02
I tried to insert a plugin I downloaded online, but every time I did, TD would crash instantly and then restart automatically.
I recorded this whole loop.

03

This was part of my crash tests from last week.
When I entered extreme values, TD froze completely, and my mouse stopped responding.
I added sound of the mouse clicking and whenever my computer is overloaded, it makes this noise—I recorded and added it.

04

Continuing last week’s test, I stacked many operators until TD overloaded.
It started throwing endless error pop-ups, so I edited it and make it feel like the errors could never be closed.

05

I added even more elements, and TD became extremely slow.
Every time I clicked something, it took a long time to respond.

06

I repeated the “overload test” many times to see different crash behaviors.
This time, my mouse cursor became very large, the rainbow loading icon appeared, and then my computer restarted by itself.
Since my screen recording couldn’t capture these changes, I recreated the cursor and reboot effect in post-production.

07

This time, TD suddenly opened its official website on its own.

08

Then, I wondered—can I make TD crash by itself?
I added operators and a script that made TD crash after running for 5 seconds.
I also wrote a command in the terminal so that TD would restart immediately after closing.
This created a loop where TD runs, crashes, closes, and reopens on its own.

09

While testing the previous experiment, TD suddenly crashed and opened multiple TD windows at the same time.
When I closed one, new ones kept popping up.
So, I turned this into another loop.

10

Finally, I tried using TD itself to simulate a crash scene.
I added many error windows until they filled the entire screen, then turned into a “blue screen”.

Finally, I imported all these crash videos into my screensaver and set them to play randomly.
