Unit1: Methods of cataloguing–week2

Final presentations and feedback.

(Oct 29,2024)

In the past week, I further developed my approach to categorizing the expressions of plush toys. I tried placing these plush toys into new contexts and linking them together through a series of stories. I imagined a scene where these plush toys are face-to-face neighbors, and then I speculated on what might happen when they look at each other through the window based on their expressions and gestures.

I grouped the plush toys into sets. Most of the sets consist of one plush toy that looks happy and smiling, and another that appears more serious and cool.

For example, one of the plush toys wears a hat that looks like a birthday hat, so I imagined it might be celebrating a birthday. The smiling frog looks friendly and enthusiastic, so I imagined that when they look at each other through the window, the frog might celebrate birthday together.

In the set on the right, the giraffe looks serious, while the two little bunnies seem lively and maybe a bit naughty.

Below, there’s also a confused seal. Then there’s a small, sleeping lamb…

Based on these ideas, I created a short frame-by-frame animation as the final output.
